Ethics Guidance for Occupational Health Practice 9th Edition - Book - Page 18
1.19. Taken together, human rights legislation and evolving employment protections
form a complementary framework. OH professionals have an ethical duty to
ensure that their practice respects individual rights, aligns with current statutory
employment protections, and supports equitable, safe, and just working
environments.
Using this Guidance
1.20. As an evolving digital resource, this guidance welcomes feedback from
practitioners and stakeholders. It is organised into four sections covering:
Governance – systems that ensure accountability, leadership, professional
relationships, evidence-based practice,
and
continuing
professional
development.
Information – principles governing confidentiality, consent, data protection, and
clinical records.
Workplace Ethical Issues – fitness for work assessments, preemployment health evaluations, sickness certification, disciplinary processes,
and ill health retirement.
Occupational Health Research and Training – principles supporting ethical
research and distinguishing it from audit and service evaluation.
Ethical issues may span multiple areas; users should cross refer between
sections. Reading the guidance in full initially is recommended to gain an
overview of the principles and structure.
